Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill, Denver

The neighborhood in one sentence: Capitol Hill is a great mixture of history and hip, with historic locations like the Molly Brown House just blocks away from great nightlife spots like Black Box.

Favorite places and best-kept secrets: Cap Hill is home to Historic Denver site the Molly Brown House (former home of philanthropist, socialite and early Colorado activist Margaret “Molly” Brown), beautiful churches and wonderful mansions, some rumored to be haunted — which makes for great neighborhood strolls. Pablo’s Coffee and Subculture offer tasty and quick food and beverage options, or you can sit down and grab a cocktail at Hudson Hill. Get your vegetarian on at City O’ City, take in a football game or six at Govnr’s Park Tavern, or pick either of two must-try brunch spots, Jelly and Sassafrass. If we’re talkin’ late night pizza, hit Benny Blanco’s, Slice Works or Sexy Pizza, depending on where you are when that craving hits. Have money to burn? Wax Trax offers one of the best selections of vinyl and hard-to-find music in the city. Stocking your home bar or prepping for guests? Argonaut is basically a grocery store for liquor.

What are transportation and parking like in the neighborhood? Cap Hill is friendly to those on two legs or two wheels. What we mean by that is man, parking can be a nightmare on the narrow, crowded streets.

Better for buyers or renters?: Capitol Hill is home to many apartment buildings, from modern, 11-story high rises to quaint older walk-ups. There also are turn-of-the-last-century houses and condos for sale and rent.

What else should people know about the neighborhood? Cap Hill is Denver’s most densely populated neighborhood and while it may drive you crazy when you’re trying to find parking, it more than makes up for it with a cool, historic vibe and the diverse characters you’re bound to meet on any given day.
